All time, through the end of their September 2026 series. More than 2,600 games, and six wins apart. Six!

I hate the Dodgers. I'm starting there so we can skip the part where I pretend to be fair. I hated them before I knew what a pennant was, and I'll hate them when I'm old and yelling at a radio. Giants and Dodgers is the best rivalry in baseball, and don't let anybody from the East Coast tell you otherwise. It started in New York, it moved across the country with both teams in 1958, and it's never once calmed down.

Here it is, the way I'd tell it to you at a bar.

1951

The Shot Heard Round the World

Three game playoff at the end of the season, both teams tied after 154. Game 3, bottom of the ninth, Dodgers up 4 to 1. Then Bobby Thomson hits it into the left field seats at the Polo Grounds off Ralph Branca and the Giants win the pennant. The Giants win the pennant! Seventy five years later I still get goosebumps at a game I obviously never saw.

1958

The feud moves west

Both clubs leave New York. The Dodgers go to Los Angeles, the Giants come here, and on April 15 the first big league game on the West Coast goes to us, 8 to 0 over LA. Perfect start. Should've ended the series right there.

1962

They tie again, and we win again

Tied after 162 games, another three game playoff, and the Giants take it two games to one. Same teams, same drama, 11 years later and a whole continent away. You can't write this stuff.

1965

Marichal and Roseboro

The ugliest moment the rivalry ever had on the field. Juan Marichal hit John Roseboro over the head with a bat at Candlestick in the middle of a pennant race. No excuses for that one. What gets me is that the two of them ended up friends, and Roseboro later spoke up for Marichal when he was up for the Hall of Fame.

1982

Joe Morgan ruins their day

Last day of the season at Candlestick. We'd already been knocked out, the Dodgers had won the first two of the series, and they needed this one. Joe Morgan hit a three run homer in the seventh, we won 5 to 3, and the Dodgers went home. We couldn't go, so neither could they. Pure, beautiful spite. Best kind of baseball there is.

1993

They got us back

And I still can't talk about this calmly. We won 103 games and needed the last one. Mike Piazza hit two homers, Kevin Gross went the distance, and the Dodgers beat us 12 to 1 to end it. 103 wins and we watched the playoffs on TV. Yeah, I know, 1982. I don't care.

2011

Bryan Stow

This one's not fun and it shouldn't be. Giants fan Bryan Stow was beaten in the parking lot at Dodger Stadium after Opening Day, and his life was never the same. Whatever else I say on this page, this is a game. Nobody should ever get hurt over it.

2021

The only postseason series, ever

After all those years, they finally met in October, the NLDS, and we'd won 107 games to their 106. It went five. We took Game 1, 4 to 0, and Game 3, 1 to 0, and they took the other three, and Game 5 ended 2 to 1 on a check swing call on Wilmer Flores. A CHECK SWING. I threw something. I won't tell you what.

2026

Where it stands right now

The Dodgers won 5 to 1 at Oracle Park on September 27, the last meeting of the year. They've won the last two World Series, 2024 and 2025. They lead the series 626 to 570 since the move west. The next one's May 6, 2027, at Dodger Stadium, and yes, I've already looked it up.

Who's actually winning this thing

I'll give you the real count, because I'm not a coward. The Dodgers have nine World Series titles and 26 pennants. The Giants have eight titles and 23 pennants. Since the move to California, though, it's eight titles for them and three for us, and those last two of theirs have been pretty hard to sit through.

But we've got 2010, 2012 and 2014. Three in five years, with a roster they laughed at, and they spent that whole run spending more money than anybody and going home. If you think I'm done talking about that, you haven't met me. Here's every Bay Area title if you want to feel good, and what Bumgarner did in 2014 if you want to feel great. Everything else is on the Giants hub.

Beat LA. Always.
