The 49ers in 2026

This is the 49ers hub: results, injuries, roster moves, and the columns that come out of them. Three games into 2026 the 49ers are 3 and 0, and the season looks exactly like camp said it would. The quarterback is playing the best football of his career and the medical staff is busier than the coaching staff.

It started in Melbourne with a 27 to 7 win over the Rams, the first regular season game the NFL has ever played in Australia. Then came 35 to 13 over Miami in the home opener and 36 to 30 over Arizona at Levi's, with Purdy throwing four touchdowns. Through three games he has a 133.1 passer rating and nine touchdowns, which is why the Purdy argument has gotten a lot louder, and the career passer rating record is right there.

The other half is the injury list. Ricky Pearsall is out for the year, Alfred Collins tore his patellar tendon in Melbourne two days before the opener, De'Zhaun Stribling had ankle surgery and is out close to ten weeks, and Nick Bosa pulled his calf and will miss a few weeks. With half the defensive line hurt, the front office answer was signing Matthew Judon.

For the argument about how good this can be, there is the case that this is the best roster Shanahan has ever had, and the reason to be careful about it. The dynasty years, the Montana-Young era and the Super Bowl that still stings are in Bay Area Dynasties and History.

The 2026 season

Four pages carry the season and get updated as it goes: the preview, which lays out the roster and the four questions that decide the year; the schedule hub, where every weekly preview and reaction gets linked as it publishes; the roster and depth chart, position by position with the injuries; and the Purdy page, which tracks where he actually ranks and what he can still reach.

The season opened somewhere absurd: a Week 1 divisional game against the Rams at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, the first regular season game the NFL has ever played in Australia, and the 49ers won it 27 to 7. For the history rather than the present, start with the dynasty years and the Montana-Young split.
