Sharks All Time Leaders: Marleau, Thornton and the Kid Coming for Them
It's Patty's book, with one chapter for Jumbo. And there's a kid in San Jose who just put up 115.
Patrick Marleau is the San Jose Sharks. I don't know how to explain it to somebody who wasn't here. They picked him second overall when he was a kid, he stayed for most of his adult life, and now if you open the Sharks record book, his name is basically every page.
So that's goals, points and games. Three of the five big ones. And then Jumbo comes along and takes another.
Joe Thornton has 804 assists as a Shark, which is the franchise record, and he got here in a trade in the middle of the 2005-06 season! He landed in San Jose and just started dropping passes on people's tape for 15 years. Watching him thread one through three guys to Patty on the doorstep was the most fun I've had watching hockey. Both of those numbers are in the rafters now, Marleau's 12 and Thornton's 19, and they're the only two up there.
In net it's Evgeni Nabokov with 293 wins. Nabby was so good for so long and I don't think he ever got his due outside of San Jose. I'll say it. He was great.

Okay, now can we talk about the kid
Because this is why I'm so fired up. Macklin Celebrini put up 63 points as a rookie and then 115 last year. A HUNDRED AND FIFTEEN. He came into this season with 70 goals and 178 points, already the active franchise leader in both, and he's only just getting started. He's got 7 goals and 11 assists so far this year.
Now look at Marleau's 1,111. Celebrini's got a long, long way to go. I've done the math, though, and I'll keep doing it, because at 115 a year that's less than a decade! Is that crazy? Probably. He just has to stay here, stay healthy and keep doing something almost nobody does. I've spent 30 years learning what happens to Sharks fans who get their hopes up. I've got the scars.
I'm getting my hopes up anyway. William Eklund has 113 career assists and Yaroslav Askarov has 25 wins, so the rest of the young group's on the board too. The record book's been Patty's and Jumbo's for a long time. I'd love to watch somebody come take it.
Going to see him? Read the SAP Center guide first. Here's more on Celebrini and what he's already broken, the schedule, and the Sharks hub.
